DUST2 Youth Mountain Bike Team
Get ready to pedal your way to awesomeness! At DUST2, we’re all about promoting active lifestyles through cycling while building confidence, leadership, and independence in Pagosa youth. The DUST2 Youth Mountain Bike team meets 2-3 evenings a week during the late summer and early fall seasons to ride bikes, make friends, and explore the beautiful area surrounding Pagosa Springs, CO. The high schoolers have the option to compete at 5 weekend races in the Colorado High School League, with venues extending all over Colorado.
Team Background
The team is broken down into two groups; middle school and high school. For the middle schoolers, a summer camp and fall season was started in 2017; this is now known as the Adventure Team. The high school Mountain Bike Team was initially part of NICA (National Interscholastic Cycling Association), but changed over to the Colorado High School League in 2018 when the entire state shifted to this new organization. The teams are not affiliated with the local high school, but instead are part of the independent non-profit DUST2.
The DUST2 Mountain Bike Team was started in 2017 by Janine Emmets, co-owner of Pagosa Mountain Sports. Every year since then, the DUST2 Mountain Bike Team has been riding, training, and having fun all over the Pagosa Springs area. Janine still serves as the Team Director, sharing leadership with several other dedicated coaches.
Fall School Teams
This program gives students the chance to work on bike skills, learn basic maintenance, and master trail etiquette. We focus on different skills throughout the program and teach them how to make good decisions while out on the trail. Plus, we dedicate one day to trail work to give back to our beloved Pagosa trails!

Questions
-
I don't have a bike: don't let this hold you back. Please get in touch: dust2pagosa@gmail.com
-
I don't want to race: at DUST2, we’re all about instilling the love of biking into every athlete while encouraging them to challenge themselves and try new things. Middle school does not race. While racing for the high schoolers is an option, it’s not a requirement to be part of our team.
-
How big is the team? We average around 35 athletes each year.
-
Who are the coaches? Coaches are local parents and dedicated people who enjoy teaching youth on bikes. Coaches are licensed each year and are required to pass a criminal background screening, receive professional education, obtain first aid training and meet field work requirements. These days, an average year has about 20 different coaches helping out.
-
What is the Colorado High School Cycling League? This is the non-profit that organizes and supports all of the high school teams in Colorado. They provide training, rules, regulations, and insurance to our high school participating athletes and coaches. Learn more here: Colorado High School Cycling League
